Child Care Curriculum

Philosophy

I believe that a play based curriculum along with some structured activities is the best method for children to grow and learn.

My goal is to create children who become confident, independent, develop self-esteem and to not be afraid to make mistakes or try out new things.

Currriculum Structure

My method promotes learning through play, provides age appropriate toys and learning materials, helps children build close relationships between one another and myself.

I strive to provide a warm, responsive and quality educational space for children in my care. Most of the learning and development in infants, toddlers and preschoolers occurs in free play that is led by children but also adds the intimacy of a home environment.

I want my home learning environment to feel safe yet stimulating, where children learn spontaneously with planned activities. Learning through play, and let children explore and develop at their own level.

Toys and free play help children learn how objects function, develop imagination, strengthen small muscle movement, problem solving, develop better verbal communication and team work with others.

The toys and centres available at Half Pints Academy are book nook, manipulatives, puzzles, blocks, art, puppet theatre, doll house, kitchen, chalk board, small and large toys.

Leaving your children in another persons care is stressful and scary and it is hard to trust at first.

I have been there as our oldest child was in child care at six months old so I promise to love and care for your child as if he/she were my own.

INFANT & TODDLERS

Children 2 weeks - 2 years old fall in this group

It is best to contact me as soon as you start anticipating care for this age group as it is the most required age and only so many spots available. I would consider contacting in later stage of pregnancy.

This age bracket is very young; they are still developing and learning about the world in many ways so the program is designed for each child as individuals and to foster a secure environment based on individual personality types. I provide a loving, accepting and positive environment for growth.

Toilet Training

I am happy to assist your efforts as your child learns to use the toilet but is best begun at home. When you think your child is ready to communicate with me that they have to use the potty and is almost accident free then we can start working on it at daycare :)

How To Really Love A Child

Be there. say yes as often as possible. Let them bang on pots and pans. If their crabby, put them in water. If they?re unlovable, love yourself. Realize how important it is to be a child. Go to a movie theatre in your pyjamas.

Read books out loud with joy. Invent together. Remember how really small they are. Giggle a lot. Surprise them. Say no when necessary. Teach feelings. Heal your own inner child. Learn about parenting. Hug trees together. Make loving safe.

Bake a cake and eat it with your hands. Go find elephants and kiss them. Plan to build a rocketship. Imagine yourself magic. Make lots of forts with blankets. Let your angel fly. Reveal your own dreams. Search out the positive.

Keep the gleam in your eye. Mail letters to God. Encourage silly. Plant licorice in your garden. Open up. Stop yelling. Express your love, A lot. Speak kindly. Paint their tennis shoes. Handle with caring.
